About the role
Join our team as a Swim Instructor and make a splash in your community by leading dynamic aquatic programs for youth and adults.
Responsibilities
- Planning and organizing swimming, water safety, and aquatic exercise classes
- Teaching skills using a facility-approved curriculum
- Evaluating swimming abilities and tracking progress
- Communicating with patrons and parents about goals, achievements, and areas for improvement
- Collaborating with staff to ensure smooth program delivery
- Maintaining accurate records and providing constructive feedback
Qualifications
- Any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the duties as described.
- A typical way to obtain the knowledge, skills, and experience would be a high school diploma or equivalency, AND 1 year related experience, that may include taking courses through the facility swim lesson management program (Starfish Academy), attending workshops and certification programs, and in-house trainings.
Skills
- Knowledge of supplies, materials, equipment, basic rules, and skills involved in a variety of aquatics programs.
- Knowledge of swimming techniques, water exercise techniques, and overseeing various aquatic and other recreational activities.
- Knowledge of the philosophy and objectives of the recreation profession, and the purpose, use, and benefit of various elements of specific programs.
- Basic water safety and swim instruction.
Desirable Qualifications
- Training through an accredited water fitness organization
- Experience/training in education or fitness
- Swim Instruction training
Physical Demands
- Frequent lifting, sitting, standing, bending, kneeling, stooping
- Manipulating objects
- Using swim instructional aids, personal computers, various related software programs, standard office equipment, and swimming pool equipment
- Interacting with and using parks and recreation equipment
- Handling chemicals, fumes, wet and slippery surfaces, and swimming pools
- High degree of hand/eye coordination
