About the role

The Swim Instructor is responsible for teaching group and private swim lessons to various age groups and skill levels at the City of Casselberry Aquatic Center. In addition, this position provides customer service and maintains the facility.

Responsibilities

  • Provide safe and quality swim lesson instruction for various age groups.
    • (95% of total responsibilities)
  • Teach class content appropriate to the course level and within certification guidelines; monitors participants and assesses skills, provides a safe environment for all participants, completes any necessary reports and forms, i.e., course records, attendance records, progress reports, etc.
  • Prepares lesson plans, organizes teaching equipment, enforces “ask before entry” rule, and the setup and cleanup of materials used for class.
  • Engages in conversation with participants and their family for progress updates.
  • Attends in-service training as needed.
  • Maintains the facility by performing routine pool cleaning and maintenance duties. Eliminates and/or reports any hazardous conditions or unsafe equipment.
  • Recognizes and responds to emergencies. Administers first aid if required.
  • Responds timely to customer requests and work orders.

Additional Duties and Responsibilities

  • Performs all duties and responsibilities in a manner consistent with the core values of the City, and consistent with City and Department policies.
  • Follows safe working practices and has a working knowledge of safety practices and procedures.
  • Completes the identified required or assigned training timely and applies acquired knowledge and/or skills.
  • Adheres to laws, regulations and policies of the City and of the assigned department.
  • Follows instructions provided by supervisor, Department Director or their designee.
  • Participates in department meetings, staff meetings and other related activities.
  • Maintains, preserves, retains and disposes of public records according to FS Chapter 119.
  • Participates as a member of the City staff as required to take action in the event of an emergency.
  • Acts in the assigned role to support the City in disaster preparation and/or disaster recovery efforts as described in the City of Casselberry Emergency Management Plan, assigned by supervisor or designee.

Qualifications

  • A High School Diploma or G.E.D. is preferred.
  • No experience is required. A comparable combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • American Red Cross swim instructor certification required.
