About the role

The Summit Area YMCA is seeking an enthusiastic and supportive Swim Coach to join the SAY Seals coaching team. This position focuses on coaching 10 & Under swimmers, developing their skills, fostering confidence, and promoting a lifelong love of competitive swimming.

Responsibilities

  • Coach and develop 10 & Under swimmers during practices and swim meets.
  • Plan and lead engaging practices focusing on stroke technique, skill development, and age-appropriate training.
  • Foster teamwork, confidence, sportsmanship, and a positive competitive experience.
  • Assist with swim meets, team events, and other SAY Seals activities.
  • Communicate effectively with swimmers, parents, and fellow coaching staff.
  • Collaborate with the Head Coach and coaching team to support the SAY Seals program.
  • Maintain a safe environment and adhere to YMCA and USA Swimming policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • 1-3 years of competitive swim coaching experience preferred.
  • Competitive swimming experience required; coaching experience with age-group swimmers preferred.
  • USA Swimming Coach membership (or ability to obtain upon hire).
  • YMCA Competitive Swimming certifications and/or USA Swimming coaching certifications preferred, or ability to obtain within required timeframes.
  • Ability to obtain CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer, First Aid, and other required certifications.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and relationship-building skills.
  • Must be able to work afternoons, evenings, and weekends during the swim season.

Schedule & Pay

  • This is a part-time position averaging up to 25 hours per week.
  • Practice schedules generally held Monday-Thursday 4:30pm - 7:30pm, Sundays 10:00am - 12:00pm.
  • Saturday swim meets and occasional team events.
  • The pay range for this position is $24.00-$30.00 per hour, based on experience, qualifications, and coaching certifications.
