SVP of QC Bank Compliance
CornerStone Professional Placement has partnered with a growing financial institution to find a highly visible leadership opportunity for an accomplished banking compliance professional. This role will take a strategic approach to building, maturing, and transforming a compliance quality control function during a period of significant modernization, automation, and efficiency improvements across banking operations.
About the role
The VP of QC Bank Compliance reports directly to the Bank President and leads a team of approximately five compliance professionals. The ideal candidate will bring broad banking compliance expertise, prior OCC exposure, strong executive presence, and a track record of building or materially improving compliance programs. A servant-leader mindset is essential to coach, develop, and elevate the team while building strong partnerships across the organization.
Responsibilities
- Lead the development, maturation, and ongoing administration of the Bank's Compliance Quality Control Program.
- Build and strengthen a scalable, risk-based compliance testing and QC framework, including testing methodology, regulatory coverage, annual planning, workpapers, issue management, remediation, reporting, and sustainability reviews.
- Provide strategic leadership as the organization modernizes manual processes and introduces greater automation and operational efficiencies.
- Lead, coach, train, and develop a team of approximately five professionals supporting QC, CRA, BSA/AML, and related compliance functions.
- Partner closely with executive leadership, Internal Audit, BSA/AML, Risk, Operations, Lending, Finance, Technology, and other business functions to strengthen the overall control environment.
- Provide practical, solutions-oriented guidance and effective challenge while building collaborative relationships throughout the organization.
- Oversee compliance testing across consumer compliance, deposits, lending, BSA/AML, OFAC, fair lending, CRA, privacy, operational compliance, and other applicable banking regulations.
- Evaluate processes and controls, identify gaps and root causes, and develop actionable recommendations that support sustainable remediation.
- Prepare and present compliance risk, testing results, emerging issues, and remediation progress to senior leadership and applicable governance committees.
- Support regulatory examinations and maintain effective relationships and communication with the OCC and other applicable regulatory stakeholders.
- Contribute compliance expertise to major operational transformation initiatives, including modernization of the Bank's loan origination processes and systems.
- Identify opportunities to leverage technology, automation, reporting, and data to create a more efficient and best-in-class compliance function.
Requirements
- 10+ years of progressive experience in banking compliance, compliance testing, quality control, internal audit, risk management, regulatory examination, or a closely related banking function.
- Demonstrated experience building, transforming, or materially strengthening a banking compliance, QC, testing, monitoring, or second-line review program.
- Broad knowledge of consumer and operational banking compliance, including lending and deposit regulations, fair lending, UDAAP, CRA, BSA/AML, OFAC, privacy, and related federal and state requirements.
- Prior experience interacting with the OCC, regulatory examiners, senior executives, and/or Boards of Directors.
- Strong understanding of risk-based testing, control evaluation, testing methodology, issue management, remediation, and regulatory examination readiness.
- Proven people leadership experience with a genuine interest in coaching, mentoring, training, and developing employees.
- Strong emotional intelligence, executive presence, communication skills, and ability to influence across organizational lines.
- A collaborative, servant-leadership approach with the ability to hold teams accountable while building strong relationships across Compliance, Internal Audit, Operations, Finance, and other functions.
- Experience with core banking and compliance technology; exposure to Jack Henry, Verafin, Cognos, Synergy, or similar platforms is preferred.
- Experience helping an organization move from heavily manual processes toward greater automation and efficiency is highly desirable.
- Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree preferred.
- CRCM, CAMS, CIA, CFE, CFSA, or another relevant banking/compliance certification is highly preferred.
Pay
Salary: $140,000–$220,000 base, dependent on experience. Bonus: 20% bonus potential. Additional long-term compensation program available.
Schedule
Employment type: 6-month temporary assignment with potential to convert to direct hire for stellar candidates.
