About the role

Bala Consulting Engineers is seeking an expert in building energy performance and sustainability consulting to join our team as a Sustainability Engineer. The role involves delivering high performance, decarbonized building designs and sustainability analyses to clients. You will be integral to driving decarbonization efforts by providing guidance for energy compliance, net zero emissions, and climate resiliency.

Responsibilities

  • Net Zero Energy/Carbon Road Mapping
  • Whole building life cycle assessment/embodied carbon modeling
  • Green building certification support (LEED, WELL, Green Globes, etc)
  • Renewable energy analysis
  • Incentive and rebate program support
  • Electrification consulting
  • High-Level Energy Modeling using IES-VE
  • Energy & Decarbonization Auditing
  • Climate Risk and Resiliency Assessments
  • Understanding of local and national energy codes and policies
  • Consultation related to sustainability strategies, energy efficiency measures, innovative technologies, voluntary rating standards, codes, industry trends, etc.
  • Keep up to date on new and existing tools, sustainability strategies and energy efficiency measures
  • ESG and Sustainability Reporting Consulting
  • Internal sustainability reporting for AIA 2030, MEP 2040, SE 2050, and more.

Requirements

  • 0-5 years of experience
  • Strong technical writing
  • Presentation and client interface abilities
  • Proficient knowledge of applicable codes
  • Detail-oriented and deadline driven
  • Ability to take direction and act independently
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and stay organized

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering from a 4-year accredited college or university
  • Master's degree or other specialized training or experience in sustainability-related field

Skills

  • Ability to read, review, and evaluate Architectural and Engineering drawings and visualize three-dimensional models
  • Familiarity with design tools such as Revit, OneClick LCA, Tally, IESVE, InDesign
  • Basic understanding of proper system selection and applicable building codes
  • Knowledge of LEED and Green Globes design principles
  • LEED accredited and Green Globes Professional or on track to achieving accreditation is ideal (not required)
  • Strong communicator, in written, visual, and verbal formats
