Surveyor - Party Chief

Responsibilities

  • Lead and supervise field survey crews on a variety of projects, including boundary, topographic, construction layout, as-built, and ALTA/NSPS surveys.
  • Plan daily field activities and ensure work is completed accurately, efficiently, and safely.
  • Operate GPS equipment, robotic total stations, data collectors, and other surveying instruments to gather precise field data.
  • Perform construction staking and layout for residential, commercial, and infrastructure projects.
  • Conduct boundary and topographic surveys while ensuring adherence to project specifications and survey standards.
  • Maintain accurate field notes, sketches, and electronic survey data.
  • Review collected data for accuracy and completeness before submission to office staff for processing.
  • Cookorate with Project Surveyors, Engineers, and office personnel to ensure seamless project execution.
  • Train, mentor, and provide direction to Survey Technicians and field crew members.
  • Ensure all survey equipment is properly maintained, calibrated, and functioning correctly.
  • Adhere to company safety policies and promote a strong safety culture in the field.
  • Communicate project progress, site conditions, and potential issues to project management.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Director of Surveying, Senior Surveyor, or Project Manager.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience as a Survey Party Chief, Crew Chief, or Senior field survey professional.
  • Strong experience with boundary, topographic, construction staking, as-built, and ALTA/NSPS surveys.
  • Proficiency operating GPS equipment, robotic total stations, and electronic data collectors (Trimble experience preferred).
  • Adequate understanding of land surveying principles, methods, and field procedures.
  • Strong leadership and crew management skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and make informed decisions in the field.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Trimble survey equipment and software.
  • Familiarity with field-to-finish workflows and survey data management.
  • Experience mentoring and developing junior survey personnel.
  • OSHA safety training or related certifications.
