Surveyor I

About the role

The Surveyor I position within Mott MacDonald supports the crew lead and instrument operator with daily tasks related to pipeline projects. This role involves assisting with the collection of surveying data, placing marks, stakes, pins, and monuments, driving stakes to fix survey points, measuring distances, maintaining field equipment, and carrying stakes and other field equipment.

Responsibilities

• Aid in the collection of surveying data for various pipeline projects
• Place marks, stakes, pins, and monuments
• Drive stakes to fix survey points and determine location data
• Measure distances using survey tape and accurately read measurements
• Carry stakes and other field equipment over long distances and through varied terrain
• Perform routine maintenance on field equipment and manage supplies for the survey crew
• Follow directions from the Party Chief and/or Instrument Operator in a safe and efficient manner

Requirements

• Ability to walk and climb over rough terrain and work outside for up to 8-12 hours a day and 6 to 7 days per week in varying temperatures
• Manual dexterity and physical capability to perform tasks requiring bending, kneeling, squatting, reaching, and lifting/carrying items up to 50 pounds
• Willingness to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and other safety equipment as required by company guidelines and procedures
• Pass pre-employment physical, background check, and drug screen
• Valid driver's license
• Willingness to travel for extended periods of time

Qualifications

• Previous pipeline surveying experience preferred
• Previous Mott MacDonald experience preferred
• Familiarity with commonly used surveying terms and survey tools
• Strong work ethic and team-player attitude

Skills

• Ability to follow directions and work safely in various conditions
• Physical stamina and endurance for outdoor work
• Basic knowledge of surveying tools and techniques
