Position Summary
RSI is recruiting for a Surveyor to support the Department of Energy’s Office of Legacy Management (DOE LM) organization and programs. The Surveyor will assist in organizing, coordinating, leading, and participating in land survey field activities, analyzing and improving survey data, and ensuring data quality objectives are met.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Aid in organizing, coordinating, leading, and participating in land survey field activities.
- Plan and conduct surveys to establish control, lines, and grade, well elevations, and positions of other geospatial features using established procedures in support of DOE LM work.
- Manage field survey crews on multiple projects.
- Research legal records, survey records, and land titles to obtain information about property boundaries in areas to be surveyed.
- Record the results of surveys, including the shape, contour, location, elevation, and dimensions of land or land features.
- Verify the accuracy of survey data, including measurements and calculations conducted at survey sites.
- Prepare survey data, charts, plots, maps, records, and documents related to surveys.
- Ensure data quality objectives for land and aerial survey data collection are being achieved by both subcontractors and the land and aerial survey team members.
- Assist in developing technical criteria for survey methods and procedures.
- Facilitate correction of data quality problems identified in historical and ongoing data collection using internal and vendor-provided resources.
- Aid in tracking and maintaining survey hardware, software, and supporting equipment.
- Aid the survey lead in preparing necessary internal documents to ensure field processes follow internal standards.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Education And Years Of Relevant Experience
- High School degree required.
- Bachelor’s degree in surveying or applied science preferred.
- Experience in lieu of education may be considered.
- 8 years of relevant experience.
Required Licenses And Certifications
- Valid Driver’s License.
- COLORADO LICENSED PLS (Professional Land Surveyor) preferred.
Required Skills And Abilities
- Experience using Trimble Business Center software (Beginner to intermediate).
- Experience using AutoCAD Civil 3D (Beginner to intermediate).
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word).
- Excellent communication and organizational skills including field experience with survey equipment.
- Knowledge of GPS/GNSS, total station, leveling, and other general types of land surveying data collection techniques.
- Experience and knowledge in application of multiple datums, geoids, projections models and transformations to other models.
- Experience in calibrating and maintaining survey equipment.
- Strong understanding of safe field operations and safety culture in remote locations with varying weather conditions.
- Ability to develop and maintain relationships with internal and external customers.
- Ability to clearly understand project objectives and suggest changes to plans as projects develop.
- Ability to travel to and work at remote locations in both warm and cold weather.
- Ability to lift/carry surveying equipment and travel by foot over rough terrain.

Essential Physical Requirements
- MEDIUM: Work involves moving objects by exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, or an above-negligible amount and up to 10 pounds constantly.
