About the role
William Charles Construction, a MasTec Company, seeks a Surveyor for project work in Terre Haute, IN. This position involves applying skills and knowledge to ensure installations meet specified standards, performing inspections and layouts, and documenting satisfactory activities.
Responsibilities
- Promote and comply with all Company safety policies and procedures
- Record the results of surveys including shape, contour, location, elevation, and dimensions of land or land features
- Calls out readings or writes station numbers and readings in a notebook
- Marks points of measurement with elevation, station numbers, or other identifying marks
- Measures distances between survey points using steel or cloth tapes or surveyor’s chains
- Marks measuring points with markers, paint sticks, tacks, scribes, or stakes
- Holds levels or stadia rods at designated points to assist in determining elevations and laying out stakes for maps, construction, land, and other surveys
- Places stakes at designated points and drives them into the ground at specified elevations
- Cuts and clears brush and trees or other obstructions from the line of survey
- Loads/unloads equipment and prepares for daily jobs
- Assumes other special activities and responsibilities as assigned
- Exercises own initiative in seeking additional work or helping others complete their job assignments upon completion of regular work assignments
- Continually works to sharpen skills and improve understanding of surveying
- Counsults with clients and colleagues in a professional manner
- Capable of determining calibration status of measuring and test equipment
- Interacts cross-functionally with craft personnel and other team members
Qualifications
- Proven experience producing accurate as-built documentation and coordinating final drawing turn-ins
- Strong background in construction surveying, including shooting anchor bolts, setting elevations, and layout verification
- Proficiency with Trimble GPS surveying equipment (required)
- Ability to work effectively on large-scale industrial or process plant projects (chemical, ammonia, or similar facilities preferred)
- High School diploma or GED equivalent (RLS is a plus)
