About the role

The Ambulatory Care Surveyor- MD surveys ambulatory organizations throughout the United States within the full scope of the Joint Commission’s Ambulatory Programs. They apply systems analysis skills and inductive reasoning to assess compliance with applicable standards and functionality of care delivery systems. They engage health care organization staff in interactive dialogues on standards-based issues in healthcare to identify opportunities for improving compliance.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares management reports linking individual standards deficiencies with potential systems vulnerabilities and related organization risk points.
  • Communicates findings to health care organization leadership in a constructive and collegial style.
  • Participates in other Joint Commission activities as assigned.

Requirements

  • Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathy.
  • Current professional licensure in related discipline at the time of hire.
  • Board Certified with a minimum of five years of experience working in an ambulatory care setting.
  • Three years of direct clinical experience and two years in management and/or quality improvement.
  • Certification requirement: Hold a CPHQ certification (Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality) through National Association for Healthcare Quality (NAHQ) at time of hire or attain within one year of hire.
  • Experience working in an ambulatory surgery or office-based setting preferred.

Qualifications

  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Expertise in interviewing and laptop/tablet proficiency.
  • Able to lift 25 lbs., climb stairs, work in settings with infectious diseases, and travel nationwide 100% of work time.
  • Available to provide monthly availability and work one, two, or three weeks per month.
  • Must be able to observe, in real time and without slowing or interrupting the progress of all applicable types of ongoing health care treatment.
  • Standing for long periods of time, walking lengthy distances, lifting, climbing, stooping, pulling, and pushing to adequately inspect and observe all medical facilities, equipment, and procedures.
