About the role
This is a hands-on field position supporting pipeline and electrical utility design, construction, and maintenance projects across the country. You will work outdoors, operate specialized equipment, collect accurate field data, and help project teams safely locate and document underground utilities.
Responsibilities
- Perform construction staking, field layout, and as-built surveys
- Locate underground utilities using electronic locating equipment
- Collect field data using GPS/GNSS, GIS, and surveying instruments
- Operate and maintain survey, locating, and field-data equipment
- Review completed work for accuracy and quality
- Communicate with project managers, field crews, clients, and other project partners
- Work safely around active construction sites, underground utilities, and heavy equipment
- Follow company, client, and project-specific safety requirements
Requirements
- Willingness and ability to travel up to 80% throughout the United States
- Ability to work outdoors in changing weather, terrain, and job-site conditions
- Ability to safely lift and carry up to 50 pounds
- A valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record
- To pass a pre-employment drug screening
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety
- Basic computer skills and a willingness to learn new equipment and software
- Ability to work independently and as part of a field crew
- Dependable communication, organization, and problem-solving skills
Qualifications
- A degree in Surveying Technology, Construction Technology, Civil Engineering Technology, GIS, Engineering, Construction Management, Natural Resources, Geomatics, Geography, Environmental Science, or a related field
- At least one year of experience in surveying, utility locating, construction, mapping, GIS, field-data collection, inspection, engineering support, telecommunications, transportation infrastructure, environmental services, or similar fieldwork
- Technical, vocational, apprenticeship, or trade-school training combined with relevant field experience
- Experience using GPS equipment, survey instruments, utility-locating equipment, GIS software, or other field-data technology
- Outdoor field experience involving measurements, inspections, documentation, infrastructure, utilities, or construction
- An equivalent combination of education, training, certifications, and relevant work experience
Skills
- Direct surveying or utility-locating experience is helpful, but candidates with related technical and field backgrounds are encouraged to apply

Pay
$22.00–$32.00 per hour, based on experience and qualifications
Schedule
Travel-intensive position with assignments throughout the United States. Work is primarily performed outdoors at active construction, infrastructure, and utility sites. Employees may occasionally travel to TriMedia’s headquarters in Marquette, Michigan, for training, meetings, or project-related needs.
