About the role

We are seeking a responsible, highly motivated, and detail-oriented Survey Technician II to join our Land Surveying department in the Gainesville, VA area. This role supports our Mid-Atlantic territory and involves working as a key member of a survey crew, assisting in boundary, ALTA, topographic, right-of-way acquisition, transmission line, transportation, and construction surveys using the latest equipment and technology. Responsibilities

  • Supports surveying and engineering staff directly on computational or CADD drafting tasks.
  • Prepares designs or exhibits from general instruction, preliminary sketches, diagrams, schematic, or detailed design drawings.
  • Prepares working drawings from conceptual plans.
  • Assists the field supervisor with all aspects of the daily crew workload.
  • Works in a safe manner and obeys all safety regulations.
  • Supervises the survey crew in the absence of the crew chief.
  • Works independently as a one-person crew as required.
  • Performs daily uploading and downloading of data collectors.
  • Ensures daily care and charging of instrumentation.
  • Advances knowledge with upgrades in technology.
  • Maintains and supports company CADD drafting standards.

Requirements

  • Minimum of two years of survey experience.
  • High school diploma; A.A. Degree in Drafting, Design, or related field preferred.
  • Good mathematical skills.
  • Proficiency with Topcon and Trimble survey equipment (GPS, Robotics, Total Stations, Levels, and Data Collectors).
  • Proficiency with Carlson SurvCE and Trimble Survey Controller data collection software.
  • AutoCAD experience and proficiency required.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to pass a driving record check.
  • Must pass a drug test.
  • Dependable and physically able to work outdoors and on construction sites under all weather conditions and terrain.
  • Ability to stoop, crawl, bend at the knees and waist, squat, and lift 50 lbs (includes body weight, equipment, tools, and boxes).
  • Ability to stand for long periods on varied surfaces.
  • Must be willing to work overtime as required.
  • Must be willing and able to travel for extended periods.
  • Experience with Electric Transmission and Oil and Gas Transmission projects is a plus.
  • Ability to obtain a security clearance is a plus.

Pay

The projected salary range for this position is $53,000–$68,000 annually, depending on skills, experience, location, and market conditions.
