Survey Technician (Construction Surveying)
Topographic OM, Inc. – standard business hours are Monday–Friday, 6:00 AM–7:00 PM; specific schedule for this role will be based on location and department.
About the role
The Survey Technician I executes technically complex land-surveying assignments and reviews survey maps and documents to ensure technical accuracy and compliance with local, state, and federal property laws and regulations.
Inter-relationships include employees, managers, and supervisors throughout the corporation.
Responsibilities
- Perform research of county, city, and other record sources on easements, deeds, and other pertinent information; prepare working sketches for field crews.
- Use Trimble Business Center software to process field-crew data and produce files for import into AutoCAD.
- Create survey base drawings from field-crew data files (points), field sketches, photos, and reference maps.
- Use AutoCAD software to produce detailed subdivision maps, ALTA surveys, topographic surveys, and other survey-related maps or exhibits.
- Prepare legal descriptions and exhibits for right-of-way, easements, acquisition parcels, etc.
- Perform QA/QC procedures on work prepared by self and others.
- Generate construction point calculations for utilities, grading, buildings, etc.
- Generate alignments (.rxl) and surface (.dtm) files for field staking.
- Generate building gridline calculations using structural and architectural plans.
- Review and process differential level loops.
- Set up a project in TBC or Civil 3D based on parameters given within the plan set.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Thorough understanding of mathematics used in field-survey analysis.
- Ability to apply methods and standards of technical report writing and computer-assisted surveying applications.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to read and interpret a variety of maps, title reports, and legal descriptions.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite or related software used to draft reports and letters.
- In-depth knowledge of how to read civil plan sets, including stationing, slope percentage, push grade, etc.
- Ability to use a programmable calculator to determine grade from provided information in plan sets.
- Understanding of the difference between grid and ground coordinates/measurements.
