Responsibilities
- Maintain and operate GPS and conventional surveying instruments
- Perform and/or coordinate routine maintenance on company trucks, ATVs, UTVs and equipment
- Assist in production of topographic and boundary surveys
- Learn process of organizing field notes
- Learn to read construction plans to ensure accurate area to be surveyed
- Absorb manual labor tasks such as cutting brush for lines, carrying stakes, rebar, tools, and equipment
Qualifications
- General survey knowledge related to field process, equipment, and techniques
- Familiarity with construction plans
- Effective communication skills
- Initiative, responsibility, flexibility and leadership
- Team oriented and ability to get along with others
- Good math skills (ability to: add, subtract, multiply, divide)
- Knowledge in MS Office and technical software
- Ability to pass safety and certification classes (including First Aid and CPR) and exhibit safety oriented mentality
- Strong organizational skills
- Knowledge and/or ability to learn survey software/CAD software and Trimble Business Center
- Ability to embrace new technologies and processes
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- 2-year technical degree preferred
Experience
- 0-3 years surveying experience
- General understanding of technology and software required
- Survey experience preferred
Travel Expectations
- Overnight travel is required
- Survey Technician travels in company vehicle or personal vehicle to project site staying near project site during the work week with expenses paid
- Depending on base location of employee and/or project work, position travels up to 75% of the time
Working Conditions
- Lifting: Occasional maximum lift of 80 lbs. from floor to waist; occasional maximum carry of 40 lbs, 200 feet; frequent maximum carry of 20 lbs. up to 1 mile; occasional maximum vertical push force of 100 lbs.
- Work is primarily outside and will have exposure to extreme weather conditions and nature elements
- Must be able to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, climb, crawl and balance for extended periods of time
- Position will have extensive walking
- Must be able to navigate difficult terrain, including un-even surfaces, ditches, steep slopes, etc.
- Must be able to use hands for carrying items, operating devices and/or equipment, and operating ATV vehicle
- Must be able to lift/carry items (i.e. chainsaws, generators, sledgehammers, jackhammers, hand tools, etc.)
