Survey Technician

About the role

The Digital Practice and Technology Team is actively seeking a creative, talented Survey Technician for immediate employment in the Columbia, SC office.

Responsibilities

• Operation and care of all survey instruments including Total Station, level, and GPS.
• Responsible for performing property surveys, topographic surveys, construction stakeout and other survey projects for private, government and commercial clients.
• Read and understand survey notes, sketches, maps, deeds, as-builts, construction plans and drawings and records.
• Use appropriate survey equipment, conventional, GPS/GNSS and laser scanning, to efficiently and accurately perform a wide range of field survey procedures.
• Takes survey field notes, sketches, and other written records on a daily basis.
• Participates in project meetings and communicates effectively with team members and clients.
• Performs QA/QC to verify that the data complies with the project requirements.
• Understands and follows all applicable safety procedures.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent and two (2) years of land surveying experience and/or post HS education or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
• Valid US Driver’s License required to regularly drive AECOM vehicles to project sites, and as a condition of employment must pass AECOM's Motor Vehicle Records Review.
• Ability to read and understand survey notes, sketches, maps, deeds, as-builts, construction plans and other drawings and records.
• Creates survey field notes, sketches and other written records on daily basis.
• Operates with a "team" attitude and communicates effectively.
• Understands and follows all applicable safety procedures.
• Ability to lift and carry equipment of up to 50 lbs.
• Ability to stand and sit as needed on project work sites.
• Ability and willingness to travel up to 50% with occasional overnight travel.
