Survey Party/Crew Chief

About the role

The Survey Party Chief will lead the field survey crew and be responsible for the organization, efficiency, and accuracy of work performed and data obtained. This position manages Surveyors to effectively, efficiently, and safely carry out assigned duties.

Responsibilities

• Oversee the development and execution of construction, right-of-way, control, topographic, and/or other related survey duties.
• Collaborate with stakeholders, including local officials, engineers, contractors, and supervisors, during the planning phase of a project.
• Determine appropriate surveying techniques for each project.
• Collaborate with utility companies to ensure surveys are properly executed for public streets/easements.
• Gather survey data using global positioning systems (GPS) and other surveying tools to map areas and measure angles, distances, and elevations.
• Analyze plans, plats, and legal documents to appropriately plan and schedule work.
• Define boundaries for property and rights of way.
• Draft reports, descriptions, and other documentation for all surveys performed.
• Ensure final maps display a comprehensive and accurate description of the field survey.
• Ensure the work of all crew members meets standards and that assigned tasks are completed timely.
• Complete any surveying tasks crew members are unable to finish.
• Accurately complete administrative forms and reports in a timely fashion.
• Adhere to all rules, regulations, and procedures, including those necessary to maintain required licenses, certifications, and/or registrations.
• Attend meetings requested by supervisor and communicate effectively.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Considerable knowledge, typically gained from three (3) or more years of experience/training in Surveying.
• Minimum ability to safely use and operate equipment typically associated with this position within thirty (30) days.
• Valid Pennsylvania Driver’s License.
