Survey Party Chief
About the role
This opportunity is for an experienced Survey Party Chief to join WSP's Land Surveying and Geospatial Team. The role is based in Valhalla, NY and supports various Northeast surveying and geomatic projects.
Responsibilities
- Perform survey field work in an experienced leading role, either independently or mentoring Jr Party Chiefs and Instrument Operators.
- Interact with office staff and the management team on a daily basis.
- Work on a wide variety of survey projects in different sectors such as commercial, transportation, environmental, industrial, institutional, and energy projects.
- Travel to project sites within the Northeast region, which may include rural areas, urban environments, and other locations.
- Utilize a variety of survey instruments and other equipment to obtain measurements and perform field surveys.
- Prepare notes and sketches in a clear and legible manner.
- Ensure survey field data from each day is downloaded and provide reports and summaries for field work when needed.
- Interact with clients and the public while in the field, acting as the main point of contact and representing WSP in a positive and professional manner.
- Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds and resources, adhering to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
- Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Requirements
- A high school diploma or GED.
- At least 5 years of experience in the field of land surveying and geospatial services or an associated field.
- Advanced knowledge of most survey equipment, practices, and procedures.
- A willingness to mentor and teach Jr Party Chiefs and Instrument Operators while continuing to learn oneself.
- A valid state driver’s license and successful completion of WSP's Motor Vehicle and Background screening.
- Effective interpersonal and communication skills, detail-oriented, and organized.
- The ability to work independently with supervision or as part of a team to complete field tasks related to land surveying.
- The ability to work flexible schedules conducive to project-specific needs that may extend beyond typical work hours or work weeks.
- The physical ability to perform the duties of this position, which may include walking long distances and carrying equipment up to 50 pounds in weight.
- A proven track record of upholding workplace safety and willingness to abide by WSP’s health, safety, and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
Preferred Qualifications
- An associate or equivalent experience in a closely related discipline.
- OSHA 10 or other types of safety training certifications.
- Knowledge of AutoCAD and Leica Infinity or other drafting/data processing programs.
- Knowledge of Leica survey equipment.
- An FAA part 107 remote pilot certificate.
- Experience with NJDOT Projects.
- Experience in most types of survey work including but not limited to traditional boundary and topographic location surveys, utility surveys, right of way surveys, construction stakeout and monitoring, 3D laser scanning, and more.

Pay
Expected Salary (all locations): $69,700 - $88,000
