Survey Manager (Heavy Civil) – DMV Area

About the role

Lead survey operations on landmark infrastructure projects across the Mid-Atlantic. At PrimECS, you'll work directly with executive leadership, have real authority to improve operations, and help establish the technical standards that drive project success. This role offers the opportunity to make an immediate impact while helping build one of the region's premier heavy civil survey organizations.

Responsibilities

• Manage Survey Party Chiefs, Instrument Operators, Survey Technicians, and field crews.
• Plan and coordinate survey operations across multiple projects.
• Review calculations, control networks, coordinate transformations, stakeout packages, cut sheets, and field data.
• Establish and maintain survey QA/QC procedures.
• Coordinate with Project Managers, Superintendents, Engineers, and clients.
• Provide technical guidance and mentoring to survey personnel.
• Support continuous improvement of survey processes and documentation.
• Help ensure projects are delivered safely, accurately, and efficiently.

Current & Upcoming Projects

You'll support projects including major bridge construction, rail transit, tunnel construction, heavy highway, marine structures, airport infrastructure, large transportation programs, and utility infrastructure, among others. Gain exposure to multiple landmark infrastructure projects throughout the Mid-Atlantic.

Requirements

• 7+ years of heavy civil construction surveying (10+ years of industry experience).
• 5+ years of experience managing survey crews and office survey operations.
• Strong knowledge of construction layout, survey control, calculations, QA/QC, and field operations.
• Experience supporting bridge, highway, rail, airport, marine, utility, or tunnel construction.
• Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
• Passion for mentoring and developing survey professionals.
• Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) licensure is a plus but not required.

Equipment & Software

Proficiency in modern heavy civil construction surveying technologies, including:

• GNSS, robotic total stations, machine control, UAV/drone workflows.
• Survey data processing and industry-standard software such as Civil 3D, Carlson, Trimble Business Center (TBC), Trimble Access, Leica Captivate.
• Leica, Trimble, or Topcon/Sokkia survey systems.

Pay

$120,000–$150,000 annual salary, $10,000 sign-on bonus for qualified candidates, and performance bonuses based on division and individual performance.
