Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide surveying services, which include construction survey and layout on bridges, highways, foundations, and other related heavy civil projects.
- Assists with survey computations and data collection including construction layout calculations, grade sheet computation, topographical/volume analysis, and project data conversion/transformation.
- Prepare and maintain sketches, maps, reports, and as-built surveys.
- Calculate heights, depths, relative positions, property lines, and other characteristics of terrain.
- Conducting plan research and review.
- Perform fieldwork associated with land surveying.
- Conduct business with 100% integrity and professionalism.
- Project Survey Leadership: Plan, direct, and execute all surveying operations including control networks, site layout, foundation positioning, equipment alignment, and as-built documentation.
- Team Management: Lead and supervise a team of field surveyors; provide training, performance reviews, and ensure safe & accurate work practices.
- Technical Oversight: Ensure high-accuracy surveying using GPS/GNSS, robotic total stations, laser scanning, UAV/drone surveys, and BIM integration. Verify data quality and coordinate with project engineers and subcontractors.
- Cordination & Compliance: Work closely with construction managers, civil/structural engineers, and clients to support scheduling and sequencing. Maintain compliance with project specifications, safety standards (e.g., OSHA), and regulatory requirements.
- Quality & Deliverables: Perform quality control checks, resolve discrepancies, and deliver accurate as-built drawings and digital models.
- Risk Management: Identify survey-related risks, implement corrective actions, and manage surveying equipment inventory and maintenance.
Education and/or Work Experience Requirements
- Minimum of 2-3 years of experience with land surveying.
- Field work experience a must.
- Experience must show current proficiency operating a robotic tool station, GPS, and level.
- AutoCAD experience required.
- Knowledge of geological description principles and methods.
- Knowledge of applicable laws, legal codes, and government regulation.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Must be able to work independently.
- Valid Driver’s License required, and candidate must pass a Motor Vehicle Report background check.
- Bachelor’s degree in Surveying, Geomatics, Civil Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) license preferred.
- 8+ years of progressive surveying experience with 3–5 years in a leadership role on industrial or heavy civil projects.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards.
- Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local standards.
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
- Must be able to talk, listen and speak clearly on telephone.
