About the role
Works on a survey crew with the crew chief on multiple projects to set up and operate surveying instruments, compile notes, make sketches, and enter data into computers.
Responsibilities
- Sets up and operates surveying equipment such as Robotic Total Stations, Digital Levels, Data Collectors, and Global Positioning Systems (GPS).
- Assists in taking field notes, collecting field survey data, and performing computations.
- Reads and interprets construction plans and drawings.
- Maintains, cleans, and organizes survey vehicle and equipment.
- Sets stakes for a variety of commercial and industrial projects.
- Carries equipment and tools for long distances.
- Controls traffic when working in or near roadways.
- Clears brush and small trees.
- Adheres to safety protocols and procedures.
- May perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.
- No experience necessary.
- General knowledge of math and trigonometry.
- Good handwriting and ability to sketch and document.
- Strong math skills and interest in mathematics.
- Willingness to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Must pass pre-employment drug screen and background check.
- Strong work ethic and ability to work well on a team.
- Positive attitude and desire to learn.
Physical Demands
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
- Fieldwork involves working outdoors in all types of weather, walking long distances, and standing for extended periods while measurements are taken.
- Frequently required to sit; talk; hear; stand; walk; use hands and fingers to feel, handle, or operate objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms.
- Must frequently lift or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift or move up to 100 pounds.
Schedule
This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., with overtime and weekends as required.
Travel
Travel will be required to respective job sites in the Southeast Michigan area and throughout the United States.
