About the role

The Agency Safety Division within the Department of Public Safety seeks an Engineering Technician II (S) to join the Hazard Mitigation Section. This position will perform all aspects of geodetic surveying, assist with the installation of antenna mounts, and support the operation and maintenance of the Continuously Operating Reference Station (CORS) network.

Responsibilities

  • Perform geodetic surveying activities, including public trust lands research and county and state boundary surveys.
  • Research, analyze, process, and maintain survey and geospatial data.
  • Aid in the installation of antenna mounts, GPS receivers, and associated hardware on designated structures.
  • Support the operation and maintenance of the Continuously Operating Reference Station (CORS) network.
  • Visit CORS sites to troubleshoot equipment and assist with system upgrades, maintenance, and repairs.
  • Operate and maintain a variety of precision surveying and GPS/GNSS equipment.
  • Perform equipment checks, adjustments, and routine maintenance to ensure instruments meet required standards.
  • Locate, recover, document, and establish geodetic monuments.
  • Assist field crews with monument installation, including digging, transporting concrete, hand mixing and pouring concrete, and setting monuments.

Requirements

This position requires a minimum of an associate’s degree in an applicable area of Engineering Technology, Survey Technology, or a related curriculum from an appropriately accredited institution, combined with two (2) years of progressive technician level experience. Alternatively, an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Qualifications

Knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this position include:

  • Experience with geodetic and/or boundary surveys.
  • Experience using Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) to perform geodetic and/or boundary surveys.
  • Experience mixing and pouring concrete, digging holes, and installing antenna mounts.

Skills

Preferred skills include:

  • Proficiency with precision surveying and GPS/GNSS equipment.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and maintain equipment.
  • Strong organizational and attention to detail skills.

Benefits

The position offers a competitive salary range of $41,206.00 - $72,113.00, state benefits including paid vacation, paid sick leave, paid holidays, retirement, and health insurance, and the option for teleworking on a part-time basis as part of the State Telework Program.

The salary range for this position is $41,206.00 - $72,113.00.

This is a full-time position (40 hours per week).
