Survey Crew Lead: Transportation Specialist / Transportation Generalist Senior

About the role

The Transportation Specialist / Transportation Generalist Senior position involves leading a field survey crew to collect and process data according to CAD standards. Key responsibilities include setting up real-time kinematic global position systems or total stations, assisting in construction survey office activities, operating survey equipment, and performing set-up, calibration, and maintenance. Additionally, the position involves assisting the survey lead in field construction, setting and marking stakes, and performing snow and ice removal activities.

Responsibilities

• Performs as survey lead worker.
• Sets up real time kinematic global position systems or total station.
• Performs data comparison from real time kinematic global position systems or total station.
• Assists survey lead in construction survey office activities.
• Performs set-up, calibration, use and maintenance of survey equipment.
• Affixes survey notes, recovers or establishes horizontal and vertical control, sets and marks stakes, and pounds hubs or sets right of way.
• Sets up and operates global positioning systems.
• Affixes investigation and location of lot corners, monuments, and section corners.
• Performs snow & ice activities such as maintaining roadways and preparing & inspecting winter equipment.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Licensure: Valid driver’s license.
• Experience: Four years of experience performing surveys (e.g., land, location, construction, and/or geodetic control surveys, etc.), mapping or related activities. OR Three years of experience performing surveys (e.g., land, location, construction, and/or geodetic control surveys, etc.), mapping or related activities PLUS a combination of one year of experience performing roadway inspection, design or related activities.
• Education: A two-year Civil or Construction Technology Degree or the following four-year degrees: Architectural, Civil or Mechanical Engineering; Land Surveying / Geomatics; or equivalent may substitute for one year of experience.
• Physical Requirements: Work outside, exposed to the weather (both hot & cold) on a daily basis. Drive a motor vehicle in off-road conditions. Walk on uneven/sloping ground. Operate machinery and equipment (using vision & hearing) under varying temperatures. Frequently lift in the moderate 40-50 pound range and infrequently lift up into the 75 pound range. Wear and use personal protective equipment to protect the head, eyes, hearing, respiration, visibility and feet from injury. Operate motor vehicles and heavy equipment such as a snow plow/sander.
