Survey Crew Chief

Overview

Colliers Engineering & Design is seeking an energetic, adaptable, and solution-oriented Survey Crew Chief in Syracuse, New York. The position requires taking and following instructions while also thinking independently.

Responsibilities

• Plan and perform advanced field surveys within the defined project scope and budget, using the most efficient methods, and in accordance with applicable standards of practice.
• Interact with project site supervisors and client field representatives.
• Prepare accurate, detailed field notes and reports of daily activity in a timely manner.
• Perform in-field calculations for construction stakeout and various land surveys with minimal assistance from office support team.
• Prepare or receive from the Project Manager, the Health, and Safety Checklists. Review and instruct other crew personnel on all safety hazards, PPE, etc. associated with the work being performed.
• Maintain, transport, and operate the instruments and equipment associated with surveying land and preparing the job site for a survey.
• Operate and maintain the survey vehicle in accordance with the Company vehicle manual.
• Mentor and train junior field staff to facilitate career advancement.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of field survey experience and at least 2+ years of experience as a Crew Chief, or equivalent knowledge.
• Candidates must be proficient with data collectors, data collection techniques, robotic instruments, conventional field note-keeping, total stations and leveling.
• Experience with civil surveying and construction staking required.
• Experience with or ability to learn the use of 3D scanners.
• Candidate must be a self-starter, with little need for supervision once provided with a work assignment.
• Must be able to work in inclement weather.
• Travel required (50%).
• A valid driver's license and clean driving record required. MVR will be checked and monitored.
• Ability to read, write and understand English for purposes of comprehending written job-related communications and verbal instructions and interactions.

Pay

$27.69 per hour to $41.63 per hour (depending on qualifications).
