Surveillance Specialist

About the role

The Reservation Asset Protection Specialist monitors the security and Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) systems of the Yuhaaviatam of San Manuel Nation Reservation and additional Tribal buildings. This position continuously observes, reports, records, and documents unusual or suspicious occurrences, aligning with the Tribe’s vision, mission, and values.

Responsibilities

• Conduct CCTV monitoring and surveillance of property-wide activities to detect risks to the Tribal Community.
• Document incidents with specific details, clear reporting, and accurate data entry while maintaining confidentiality.
• Answer telephone calls, monitor radio communication, and log pertinent information using reporting and video management software.
• Collaborate with Tribal operations and management to investigate criminal activity, injuries, illness claims, or safety risks.
• Notify the Surveillance department to ensure archiving of incidents captured on video.
• Maintain confidentiality, integrity, and professionalism.
• Stay knowledgeable of Tribal Community Services internal controls, policies, and procedures.
• Perform camera checks, submit work orders for malfunctions, and report surveillance equipment issues.
• Perform additional duties as assigned to support department operations.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED (required).
• Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice or related field (preferred).
• Minimum two (2) years of surveillance experience or related field (required).
• Experience working in a Tribal Government (highly preferred).
• Experience with Genetec and/or iTrak systems (highly preferred).

Skills

• Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook), commercial database systems, and internet research.
• Ability to multitask, prioritize, and work effectively in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
• Demonstrated competencies in critical thinking, collaboration, teamwork, communication, problem-solving, and customer service.
• Flexibility with daily and weekly schedule based on departmental needs.

Licenses & Certifications

• May require a gaming license (at the discretion of the San Manuel Tribal Gaming Commission).
• Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record (required for operating Tribe-owned or patron vehicles).

Physical Requirements & Working Conditions

• Primarily works in a climate-controlled office setting but may require travel for meetings, trade shows, or conferences.
• May work evening, weekend, and holiday shifts.
• Must handle occasional physical demands, including lifting up to 10 pounds frequently and up to 40 pounds occasionally.
• Sedentary work involving prolonged sitting, computer use, and office machinery operation.
• Physical activities include balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, pushing, pulling, and repetitive motions.
• Requires sufficient hearing, speech, and visual acuity for communication and data analysis.
• Mobility to navigate office environments, enter/exit vehicles, and attend off-site events.
• Endurance to sit, walk, or stand for extended periods during shifts.
• May be exposed to fumes, airborne particles, or secondhand smoke.
