About the role

The successful candidate will provide didactic, clinical, and lab instruction for Surgical Technology courses. Classes are offered on campus or at clinical sites in support of the Orlando Campus. This position involves precepting clinical students in the Melbourne, FL area.

Responsibilities

  • Provide quality instruction in assigned courses within the approved academic program curriculum.
  • Assist in the development, implementation, and continuous evaluation of the curriculum, including sequence of courses and student learning outcomes.
  • Aid in the writing, editing, and evaluation of course objectives and ensure appropriate evaluation measures.
  • Participate in the student advising process and institution/school/department committees.
  • Assist with budget planning and problem-solving activities.
  • Engage in scholarship and service activities to meet South College outcomes.
  • Respond to information requests from the institution and administrative officials.
  • Assist with the orientation and mentoring of new faculty members.
  • Participate in continuous review of and compliance with applicable accrediting, federal, and state standards.
  • Develop appropriate academic lectures, labs, and learning experiences.
  • Grade papers and tests in a timely manner and return them to students for feedback.
  • Ensure all academic program requirements and documentation are completed and submitted on time.
  • Post accurate academic participation information for students in all courses.
  • Submit official grades at the end of each term.
  • Manage classroom activities and remain accessible to students for questions and assistance.
  • Utilize external resources in the classroom and gain approval for field trips and guest speakers.
  • Maintain active membership in professional organizations related to the field.
  • Participate in approved professional development activities.
  • Implement effective retention policies to minimize attrition.
  • Attend and participate in all general and School/Department faculty meetings, advisory board meetings, and graduation ceremonies.
  • Assist with the administration and grading of challenge examinations.
  • Select new textbooks and assist in the selection/culling of the library collection.
  • Participate in annual School/Department community service projects.
  • Complete scholarly activities as appropriate to the School/Department.
  • Participate in the annual performance review process.

Requirements

  • A minimum of an earned bachelor’s degree.
  • A graduate of an education program in surgical technology accredited by a nationally recognized programmatic accreditation agency.
  • A credential in the field of surgical technology through a national certification program accredited by the National Commission on Certifying Agencies (NCCA).
  • A minimum of two years of experience, either in the operating room scrub role or as an instructor in surgical technology, within the past five years.
  • Strong communication and technology skills.
  • Prior teaching experience preferred.
