Responsibilities
- Aid the surgical team during operating procedures by passing instruments, sponges, and sutures to surgeons and surgical assistants.
- Select and lay out instruments for operating procedures.
- Prepare sterile supplies for operating procedures.
- Prepare surgical trays for operating procedures.
- Aid in the preparation of patients for surgery.
- Move patients after completion of surgery for transfer to the Recovery area.
- Process patient care orders using the electronic ordering system as required.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Surgical Technologist Specialist Requirements:
- Graduation from high school or equivalent.
- Completion of an accredited or military Surgical Technologist program or a program pending immediate accreditation.
- Certification from The National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA).
- One year of Surgical Technologist Senior experience, in good standing, at the University of Michigan Health System.
- Surgical Technologist Senior Requirements:
- Graduation from high school or equivalent.
- Completion of an accredited or military Surgical Technologist program.
- Two years' experience as a Surgical Technologist.
- Surgical Technologist Requirements:
- Graduation from high school or equivalent.
- Completion of an accredited or military Surgical Technologist program.
Physical Requirements
- Moderate standing/walking.
- Lifting, positioning, pushing, and/or transferring of patients.
Desired Qualifications
- Some experience as a Surgical Technologist.
- Certification from The National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA).
