About the Role

At SGMC Health, the Surgical Technologist integrates an understanding of anatomy & physiology, surgical procedures, and principles of aseptic technique. Under the direct supervision of the surgical physician and registered nurse, you will facilitate invasive therapeutic and diagnostic procedures. The role requires vigilance in maintaining the sterile field while anticipating the needs of the surgeon.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a sterile field during surgical procedures.
  • Anticipate the needs of the surgeon and surgical team.
  • Assist with the implementation of tools and aseptic techniques.
  • Support invasive therapeutic and diagnostic procedures.

Requirements

  • Current Certification by the Liaison Council on Certification for the Surgical Technologist (LCC-ST) is preferred.
  • Current CPR certification.
  • Six months to one year of related experience is strongly preferred.
  • Ability to read, comprehend, and write detailed instructions and correspondence.
  • Ability to present information effectively in one-on-one and group situations.
  • Basic arithmetic skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division).
  • Ability to follow complex written or oral instructions.
  • Flexibility in work schedule, assignments, and workload.
  • Understanding of SGMC Health’s policies and regulatory agency standards.

Working Conditions

  • Regularly required to walk, reach, and stretch with hands and arms.
  • Frequently required to stand for long periods, use hands to handle instruments, and control equipment.
  • Must lift and/or move up to 50 pounds regularly and up to 100 pounds occasionally.
  • Vision abilities include close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Occasionally requires excessive strength to restrain confused or combative patients.
  • Frequent exposure to moving mechanical parts, explosive materials, blood, and body fluids.
  • Occasional exposure to wet/humid conditions, fumes, airborne particles, toxic chemicals, risk of electrical shock, and radiation.
  • Moderate noise level in the work environment.
