PeaceHealth is seeking an experienced Surgical Technologist to join the Operating Room team at St. John Medical Center in Longview, Washington. The facility features 5 OR suites and Davinci XI robots for general and GYN surgery.

About the role

This per diem/relief position assists the surgical team during operative procedures by performing technical duties to prepare and maintain the sterile field. The schedule consists of 10-hour day shifts on variable days.

Responsibilities

  • Arrange and inventory sterile set-up for operations and pass items to the surgical team.
  • Understand and apply principles of asepsis; establish and maintain the sterile field.
  • Assist in preparation and moving of patients.
  • Clean, disinfect, and sterilize instrumentation; assist with room turnover.
  • Access computer information such as preference lists and digital images.
  • Participate in safety initiatives and adhere to quality programs (e.g., SCIP, SCOAP).
  • Perform other assigned duties.

Requirements

  • Completion of a Surgical Technology Training program.
  • Washington State Surgical Technologist Registration.
  • Basic Life Support Certification for healthcare providers.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of age-specific principles of growth and development.

Qualifications

  • Preferred: 1-year surgical technologist experience in a full-service Operating Room.
  • Preferred: Certified Surgical Technologist (CST).

Skills

  • Well organized, detail oriented, and self-motivated.
  • Ability to coordinate activities and work collaboratively with others.
  • Ability to execute detailed procedures with accuracy and precision.
  • Basic computer/keyboarding skills, including MS Office applications.
  • Understanding of operating room protocols.

Working Conditions

  • Lifting and patient handling up to 35 lbs. without assistive equipment (NIOSH).
  • Fine motor skills for grasping and controlling medical equipment.
  • Frequent reaching, bending, squatting, kneeling, and grasping.
  • Lift/Carry: Frequently up to 15 lbs., occasionally up to 20 lbs.
  • Push/Pull: Frequently up to 20 lbs. force, occasionally up to 30 lbs. force.
  • Exposure to biohazards, body fluids, airborne particles, and toxic or caustic chemicals.
  • Time spent in a medical/hospital setting.
  • Vision and hearing within normal limits (glasses, contacts, hearing aids permitted).
  • Ability to communicate and exchange accurate information.

Pay

Wage range: $40.26 - $60.76 per hour, dependent on experience and SEIU Technical union contract terms. Additional compensation includes:

  • 15% relief differential in lieu of benefits.
  • $3.50/hour evening shift differential for applicable hours.
  • Additional $3.50/hour for Certified Surgical Technologist (CST).

This position is represented by a collective bargaining agreement.
