Surgical Technologist -MEE

About the role

The Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) at Mass Eye & Ear functions as an integral member of the perioperative team within the 6th Floor Ophthalmology Surgical Suites. This role requires advanced knowledge of ophthalmic instrumentation, microsurgical techniques, specialty equipment, and surgical workflows to ensure optimal patient outcomes.

Responsibilities

• Prepares and maintains a safe, efficient, and sterile surgical environment while providing direct support to surgeons and nursing staff throughout ophthalmic surgical procedures.
• Anticipates the needs of the surgical team, prepares surgical supplies and equipment, maintains sterile technique, and assists with a wide variety of ophthalmic procedures including cataract, retina, cornea, glaucoma, oculoplastics, refractive, and complex eye surgeries.
• Collaborates closely with surgeons, registered nurses, anesthesia staff, and support personnel to promote patient safety, operational efficiency, and exceptional patient care.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or Equivalent required.
• No experience in lieu of a degree accepted.
• Basic Life Support [BLS Certification] preferred.
• Certified Surgical Technologist [CST] - National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) preferred.
• Dental Assistant - Generic - HR Only preferred.
• Medical Technician - New Hampshire Board of Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy preferred.
• Experience as a Surgical Technologist I or in a similar role 0-1 year required.
• One (1) year experience as Surgical Technologist in a similar setting 1-2 years preferred.

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

• Knowledge of surgical procedures, instrumentation, and sterile techniques.
• Familiarity with surgical equipment and technology used in the operating room.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
• Ability to remain calm under pressure and handle stressful situations during surgeries.
• Understanding of infection control protocols and patient safety measures.
