Surgical Technologist - Labor And Delivery
About the role
The Labor & Delivery unit at Hartford Hospital includes 16 labor/delivery/recovery beds, 5 obstetric triage beds, and a surgical suite with 3 ORs dedicated to cesarean delivery. The position involves providing service and support before, during, and after surgical procedures.
Responsibilities
- Ensures the presence and proper arrangement of surgical equipment and supplies in the operating room for each operation.
- Aids the surgeon during the operation as per professional and legal standards.
- Aids with cleaning the operating room after the operation, ensuring proper routing of equipment and used materials.
- Reports to the Manager.
Requirements
- A minimum of one year previous Surgical Technologist experience required.
- Experience with Cesarean sections preferred.
- Completion of a surgical technician program.
- Maintain NBSTSA certification within one year of employment.
- Maintain CPR, BLS validation, and attend annual Validation Day.
- Show knowledge of various surgical procedures and the ability to anticipate surgeon needs.
- Show knowledge of surgical equipment and instrumentation.
- Show excellent interpersonal/communication skills.
- Show strict adherence to policies and regulations regarding maintenance of sterile field.
- Show knowledge and practice of basic care and patient safety concepts.
Qualifications
- Must be certified through the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) or be able to obtain certification within one year of employment.
Skills
Knowledge of various surgical procedures, ability to anticipate surgeon needs, recognition of surgical problems, knowledge of surgical equipment and instrumentation, excellent interpersonal/communication skills, adherence to sterile field maintenance, and basic care and patient safety concepts.
