About the role

Advocate Health is seeking a part-time Surgery Room Status Surgical Technologist who possesses a thorough knowledge of aseptic technique and its application. The ideal candidate will assist in obtaining and organizing supplies and instruments, prepare patients, assemble supplies, instruments, equipment, and properly dispose of specimens. They will also monitor surgical supplies for sterility, document charges accurately, and ensure proper sterilization activities.

Responsibilities

  • Possesses a thorough knowledge of aseptic technique and its application.
  • Aids in obtaining and organizing supplies and instruments prior, during, and after surgical procedures.
  • Aids the Registered Nurse circulator in preparing patients, assembling supplies, instruments, equipment, and disposing of all specimens; assists with all aspects of room turnover.
  • Performs duties according to department policy and procedure.
  • Maintains sterility of surgical supplies, documents usage accurately, and ensures judicious supply use.
  • Maintains and documents sterilization activities for completion.
  • Attends in-services/staff meetings and participates in Performance Improvement Process.
  • Participates in educational opportunities to enhance competency and meet personal goals.
  • Assists in developing policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Serves as a preceptor and clinical resource to others.
  • Assumes responsibility for individual unit clinical projects as required.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited school of surgical technology or successful completion of a military training program for Surgical Technology or Operating Room Specialist.
  • At least 5 years of operating room experience in a surgical technologist role.
  • Current certification required.
  • Meets all ST III qualifications of Surgical Tech Ladder.

Qualifications

  • Physical requirements include occasional intermittent noise, exposure to conditions such as dust, fumes, and chemicals, and strenuous physical effort requiring walking, stretching, bending, climbing stairs, twisting, squatting or kneeling while performing tasks.
  • Requires frequent use of side vision, lifting, pushing, and pulling, and must be able to lift and support 35 pounds.
  • Uses both hands and all fingers for gripping, speed work, and precision during the operation of equipment/instruments and movement/positioning of surgical patients.
  • Requires vision and hearing for distances up to 20 feet, depth perception, and ability to distinguish basic colors.
  • Must be able to work for lengthy or irregular work hours, rotate shifts, work on hard surfaces, be near moving equipment, and be exposed to bloodborne pathogens.

  • Advanced surgical technology skills.

Pay

$26.55 - $39.85 per hour

Schedule

Saturday and Sunday, 7a-7p with some night and holiday call
