Surgical Technologist - Casual

As the Surgical Technologist, you’ll function as an integral member of the surgical team. With your expertise in theory and application of sterile and aseptic technique, you’ll combine your knowledge of human anatomy, surgical procedures, and technologies to facilitate a physician’s performance of invasive therapeutic and diagnostic procedures.
Responsibilities
- Demonstrates knowledge and practice of sterile techniques in the surgical suite.
- Prepares the operating room, sterile field/table for planned procedure.
- Follows standard procedures/protocols in the preparation of the environment for the surgical procedure.
- Anticipate needs of the surgical team and provide appropriate instrumentation when needed.
- Confines/contains contaminated instrumentation and equipment.
- Participates in all events required to positively identify the correct patient, the correct planned procedure, and the correct surgical site.
- Participates in providing the patient the best surgical experience possible.
- Verifies the presence of correct implants, as needed, prior to beginning procedure.
- Segregates hazardous waste and disposes of it correctly.
- Maintains physician preference cards as up-to-date.
- Accurately and promptly completes unusual occurrence reporting when necessary.
- Accepts and understands the role of the CST in emergency situations.
Requirements
This is a flexible, casual role—you’ll have the opportunity to pick up shifts based on your availability and department needs, with no set or guaranteed schedule.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Completion of a surgical technologist program.
- Current certification as a Surgical Technologist from the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA).
- Knowledge of human anatomy, surgical procedures, and technologies.
- Ability to follow standard procedures/protocols in the preparation of the environment for the surgical procedure.
- Ability to anticipate and meet the needs of the surgical team.
- Ability to confine/contain contaminated instrumentation and equipment.
- Ability to participate in all events required to positively identify the correct patient, the correct planned procedure, and the correct surgical site.
- Ability to verify the presence of correct implants, as needed, prior to beginning procedure.
- Ability to segregate hazardous waste and dispose of it correctly.
- Ability to maintain physician preference cards as up-to-date.
- Ability to accurately and promptly complete unusual occurrence reporting when necessary.
- Ability to accept and understand the role of the CST in emergency situations.

Pay
Summit's hiring range for this position is $32.60 to $40.75 per hour. The hired candidate may be eligible to receive additional compensation in the form of bonuses, differentials and/or deferred compensation.
