About the role
The instructor is responsible for the coordination, planning, preparation, presentation, and evaluation of classroom instruction and related activities during the day, evening, or weekend via instructional delivery formats to include face-to-face, hybrid, online, and remote. Face-to-face and hybrid classes may be offered on any Prince George’s Community College campus, or at off-campus locations.
Responsibilities
- Remain current in the discipline area and continually explore teaching methods and strategies to engage learners, organize and plan instructional content that accommodates diverse learning styles, and devise appropriate assessment tools that monitor student learning outcomes.
- Participate in related activities to include professional development, academic advising, curriculum design.
Requirements
- Required, an Associate degree in Surgical Technology. Bachelor’s degree preferred in related discipline.
- Must have a current Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) credential.
- Three years of didactic and laboratory instruction in surgical technology.
- Three years of work experience in the surgical technologist field.
- Knowledge of ARC / STCA accreditation standards and maintaining compliance.
- Willingness to teach in non-traditional formats (online, remote, hybrid) and settings (off-campus, weekends, evenings and accelerated).
- Minimum of four years clinical experience in surgical technology with at least 2 years in the operating room scrub role.
- Absorb and implement changes in the field of surgical technology.
- Assist in Clinical or Externship site visits and development as needed.
- Three years of related experience in sterile processing.
- Set the example and be the role model for professionalism and conduct for the Surgical Technologist profession.
- Maintain laboratory equipment and supplies in a neat and orderly fashion.
- Execute lectures and labs within the accreditation curricular Standards.
