About the role
A surgical technologist is responsible for assisting the surgeon in the pediatric intraoperative phase utilizing AORN and OSA standards of practice. The role includes maintaining sterile technique, preparing for each procedure with age-appropriate instrumentation and supplies, utilizing physicians’ preference cards, and passing instrumentation.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with other healthcare team members to meet patients’/families’ needs in a cost-effective manner.
- Provide customer service for patients/families, nurses, physicians, and other healthcare team members.
- Function as a team player and practice open communication with a positive, flexible attitude.
- Assist in meeting departmental goals by participating in quality improvement activities.
- Serve as a role model, change agent, educator, coach, and patient advocate.
- Take call in accordance with departmental policy, as required for any budgeted position.
- Work at both main and south campuses.
Requirements
- Associate’s degree in Surgical Technology, OR
- High school diploma/GED plus a certification of completion in Surgical Technology.
- Graduation from an accredited surgical technology program.
Certification/Licensure
- CPR preferred at hire, but must be obtained within 2 weeks of start date.
