Surgical Technician

About the role

Busy Atlanta Eye Center is seeking three Surgical Technologist positions. Shifts are 4-10 hours, Monday through Friday, with no weekends, nights, holidays, or on-call requirements.

Responsibilities

• Prepares and maintains medical equipment and instrumentation for surgical procedures
• Helps prepare the sterile field before an operation, including setting up surgical instruments and equipment, sterile drapes, and sterile solutions
• Completes a safety check prior to the start of the procedure on appropriate equipment, supplies, etc.
• Assembles both sterile and non-sterile equipment, and checks to ensure it is working properly
• Auxiliary tasks such as transporting patients to the procedure room, assisting with positioning on the procedure table, draping the patient, passing instruments and other sterile supplies to surgeons and surgeon assistants, retracting, cutting sutures, and performing other functions under the supervision of the physician performing the procedure
• Participates in the count of sponges, needles, supplies, and instruments, based on type of procedure performed
• Helps prepare specimens and assists with the disposition of specimens
• Applies dressings post-procedure, assists with patient transfer from the procedure bed to the stretcher
• Cleans and restocks the procedure room, pulls supplies and instruments for upcoming procedures
• Aids in the maintenance of physician preference cards and inventory management
• Aids in the decontamination and cleaning, sterilization, and performance of quality testing related to sterilization and high-level disinfection
• Performs other duties as assigned

Requirements

• Graduate of an accredited surgical technologist program; or have completed an appropriate training program for surgical technologists in the Armed Forces; or is completing duties related to their employment by the federal government; or has equivalent training or experience
• Prefer 1-2 years clinical experience in an operating room setting. May accept 0-2 years of clinical experience in a related field
• Must be certified in Basic Life Support
• Must be certified to perform CPR

Qualifications

• Education/Experience/Requirements: Graduate of an accredited surgical technologist program; or have completed an appropriate training program for surgical technologists in the Armed Forces; or is completing duties related to their employment by the federal government; or has equivalent training or experience

Skills

• Knowledge of the principle of growth and development of the life span and the ability to assess data reflective of the patient’s requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs
• Knowledge of the nursing process
• The ability to utilize recognized channels of communication
