Surgical Technician
About the role
A Surgical Technician at North Alabama Medical Center plays a crucial role in supporting surgical procedures. You will prepare the operating suite, assist with patient preparation and positioning, and pass instruments to the surgeon during the procedure.
Responsibilities
- Prepares surgical operating suite with drapes, solutions, instruments, equipment and supplies.
- Ensures good working order of equipment and instruments.
- Assists with preparing, transporting, positioning and draping patients.
- Passes instruments to physician during surgery.
- Continually accounts for number and location of instruments and supplies during surgery.
- Receives and processes specimens for delivery to the laboratory.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Critical thinking, decisive judgment, ability to work with minimal supervision in a stressful environment.
- Rapid learning and navigation of multiple software systems.
- Effective English communication (read/write/speak).
- Ability to complete the Skills Competency Checklist within 90 days of hire.
Licenses and Certifications
- Surgical Technician Certification current & in good standing.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days of hire.
- High School Diploma required.
