About the Role
Surgical Technologists/LPN function as members of the surgical team in the role of a scrub person. They work under the supervision of a RN to facilitate the safe and effective conduct of invasive and surgical procedures, maximizing patient safety and sterile technique with the application of AORN and professional standards. The Surgical Technologist is responsible for preparing and handling the instrumentation, supplies, and devices necessary for the surgical procedure.
Schedule
- Scheduled weekly hours: 36
- Three 12-hour shifts from 6:15 AM to 6:45 PM during weekdays
- Call is required during weekdays, weekends, and holidays
- Must be available in-house within 30 minutes when on call
Responsibilities
- Prepare and handle instrumentation, supplies, and devices for surgical procedures
- Facilitate safe and effective conduct of invasive and surgical procedures
- Maintain sterile technique and patient safety in accordance with AORN and professional standards
Requirements
- Graduate of an accredited school of Surgical Technology
- LPN Licensure (if applicable)
- Current BLS certification through any International Liaison Committee on Resuscitation (ILCOR) provided courses (e.g., Ochsner Health System, American Heart Association, American Red Cross), including a manikin check-off
- Good communication skills and ability to make decisions
- Call is required according to unit standards
Preferred Qualifications
- One year of experience (preferred) or STHS experience through the Surgical Tech Educational affiliate program
- Acute Care OR experience preferred
- Surgical Technology Certification (CST) preferred
Physical Demands
- Must possess good physical health
- Standing, sitting, or walking for long periods of time
- Lifting at least 50 pounds is required
- Must be able to work with a moderate level of noise
