Responsibilities

• Perform the scrub role and maintain a safe sterile environment including preparing, passing, holding, inserting, removing, cleaning and assembly of instruments, equipment and supplies
• Count sponges, needles, sharps and instruments
• Assist the RN with delegated circulating duties, transporting, positioning, skin preps and specimen preparation in accordance with established hospital policies and procedures
• Always work as a team member within the entire facility
• Perform other duties as assigned

Essential Functions

• Perform the scrub role and assist with all aspects of the care of the surgical patient according to policy and procedure and care standards
• Take direction from others and follow through in a concise manner, promoting efficiency
• Communicate using written, verbal, non-verbal skills when interacting with staff, physicians and ancillary departments
• Set priorities
• Apply sterile and aseptic techniques
• Possess knowledge of anatomy & surgical procedures
• Act to protect and advance patient’s best interest
• Maintain knowledge of equipment, expected patient outcome, and anticipated complications
• Demonstrate the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the duties outlined in this job description and continually demonstrate competency in performing the job duties

Qualifications

• High School graduate or equivalent required
• Graduate of a School of Surgical Technology preferred
• Effectively communicate, both orally and written
• AHA BLS healthcare required within 30 days of hire
