Surgical Services, Assistant Nurse Manager

About the role

Manages assigned direct reports including recruitment, hiring, coaching, disciplinary actions, development, education, competencies, performance evaluations, and payroll functions.

Demonstrates critical thinking skills, creativity, and resource management to achieve quality performance and positive employee relations.

Fosters a culture of psychological safety, where the team members feel supported, valued, empowered to speak up, share concerns, and contribute meaningfully.

Promotes evidence-based practice, ensuring quality outcomes, and fosters a culture of safety, compassion, and continuous learning.

Provides ongoing education and training to nursing staff to maintain high competency levels.

Conducts regular staff meetings to communicate updates, address concerns and provide guidance.

Prepares the unit for audits and surveys, by monitoring and maintaining unit compliance with regulatory standards, accrediting, hospital policies while coordinating staff education to maintain competencies and preparedness.

Manages nursing staff schedules to ensure adequate coverage and optimal patient care.

Manages budgets and resources efficiently to meet financial and operational goals.

Aids in developing, implementing, and evaluating ongoing service programs to ensure quality nursing and patient care.

Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, be able to maintain flexibility in schedule and adapt to varying deadlines and changing priorities.
• Detail oriented and excellent understanding of applicable nursing, clinical and patient statutory policies and regulations.
