About the role

The Assistant Director of Surgical Services, RN supports the Director of Surgical Services in the clinical and operational oversight of perioperative services (including diagnostic and interventional procedures) to ensure the delivery of safe, high-quality, and efficient patient care.

Responsibilities

  • Provides direct clinical leadership and supervision for surgical services staff
  • Collaborates with physicians, anesthesia providers, sterile processing, and ancillary departments to support excellence in perioperative practice
  • Manages the procedural areas requiring a knowledge base, skills, and competencies in clinical practice and administration
  • Ensures compliance with nursing standards of practice, hospital policies, infection prevention standards, and regulatory requirements
  • Serves as a clinical resource and mentor to perioperative staff
  • Participates in patient care rounds, case reviews, quality initiatives, and clinical performance improvement activities
  • Affords assistance with development and implementation of clinical policies, procedures, competencies, and education programs
  • Maintains monitoring of patient safety indicators, infection prevention measures, and clinical outcomes
  • Affords assistance with daily department operations including staffing coordination, patient flow, scheduling efficiency, and resource allocation
  • Collaborates with surgeons, anesthesia providers, and department leadership to improve operational efficiency and patient experience
  • Affords assistance with department productivity, throughput, turnover time initiatives, and block utilization management
  • Affords assistance with budgeting, supply utilization oversight, and capital equipment planning
  • Affords assistance with survey readiness activities and compliance with Joint Commission, CMS, Title 22, and other regulatory standards
  • Affords assistance with hiring, orientation, competency validation, coaching, and performance evaluations of perioperative staff
  • Promotes employee engagement, teamwork, accountability, and professional development
  • Affords assistance with addressing employee concerns and assisting with corrective action processes when necessary
  • Affords assistance with scheduling and staffing plans to maintain safe patient care coverage
  • Participates in quality improvement initiatives, peer review activities, and patient safety programs
  • Maintains monitoring of perioperative documentation, time-out procedures, medication safety, and sterile technique practices
  • Affords assistance with regulatory inspections, audits, and corrective action plans
  • Promotes adherence to AORN standards and evidence-based perioperative practice

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s Degree required
  • Minimum five years experience in the cardiac catheterization laboratory
  • Minimum 3 years management experience
  • Registered Nurse Licensure is required
  • Current BLS, ACLS required
