About the role
The Surgical Technician (OR TECH) under the supervision of an Operating Room Registered Nurse, assists in providing nursing care to a designated population in collaboration with the members of the health care team.
Responsibilities
- Applies scientific principles in adhering to sterile technique (gowning, gloving, draping etc.), demonstrates proper scrubbing skills, handles, and passes instrumentation utilizing aseptic technique, and can anticipate patient and surgeon needs.
- Assists in transfer and positioning of patients.
- Collaborates with circulating nurse in room preparation, selecting supplies, and organizing equipment.
- Creates, maintains, and monitors the sterile field continuously.
- Takes responsibility for maintaining equipment and instrumentation in proper functional condition.
- Assesses and responds appropriately in an emergency situation to prioritize and meet the patients’ immediate needs.
- Acts as a patient advocate and protects the patient’s rights through safe and ethical practice.
- Demonstrates safe, proper, and appropriate use of sterilizers.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalency
- Certified Surgical Technician
- 1-2 years experience
