About the role

Registered Nurses are accountable for providing safe and reliable patient care in accordance with JSMC policy and procedure, CMS standards and regulations, and Joint Commission standards and regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Identify patient care requirements by establishing personal rapport with potential and actual patients and other persons in a position to understand care requirements.
  • Create a compassionate environment by providing emotional, psychological, and spiritual support to patients, friends, and families.
  • Promote patient independence by establishing patient care goals; teach patients, friends, and family about their condition, medications, and self-care skills; answer questions.
  • Maintain a safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations; call for assistance from healthcare support personnel.
  • Protect patients and employees by adhering to infection-control policies and protocols, medication administration and storage procedures, and controlled substance regulations.
  • Document patient care services in patient and department records.
  • Maintain continuity among nursing teams by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and protect operations by keeping information confidential.
  • Ensure equipment operation by completing preventive maintenance requirements; follow manufacturer’s instructions; troubleshoot malfunctions; call for repairs; maintain equipment inventories; evaluate new equipment and techniques.
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.
  • Complete Nursing History and Assessment accurately within 24 hours of admission.
  • Determine and deliver age-appropriate care.
  • Delegate duties based on the complexity of patient needs.
  • Utilize critical thinking skills in prioritizing care.
  • Develop, prioritize, update, and maintain individualized patient care plans.
  • Collaborate and coordinate care with the healthcare team.
  • Incorporate discharge planning needs into the patient care plan.
  • Document interventions accurately, pertinently, timely, and legibly.
  • Administer medications correctly, observing the "6 rights."
  • Maintain a barcode override rate below 10%.
  • Administer medication correctly based on the patient's age and clinical condition.
  • Incorporate patient, caregivers, and disciplines into care and health teaching.
  • Practice within the scope of license as a Studer Group Partner Registered Nurse.
  • Develop a full understanding of Studer Group practices and tools and communicate them effectively.
  • Embrace Studer Philosophy and Principles by conducting oneself in a professional manner.
  • Be held accountable to Studer HCAHPS Patient Perception, Hourly Rounding with Intention, Bedside Shift Report, AIDET, and Daily Huddles.

Requirements

  • Hold current license by the state of Kentucky or a compact state as a Registered Nurse.
  • American Heart Association (AHA), American Red Cross (ARC), or Military Training Network (MNT) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is preferred.
  • One year experience in Nursing/Surgery preferred.
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred.
