Surgical Registered Nurse - Full Time - Wolf River

About the role

The Surgical Registered Nurse ensures the seamless operation of the surgical environment in an outpatient setting. Under the direct supervision of the surgeon, this role provides hands-on assistance during procedures, manages clinic flow, maintains inventory, and serves as a key point of contact for patient communication. Responsibilities span the full surgical care continuum—from preoperative preparation to postoperative follow-up—prioritizing patient safety, comfort, and optimal outcomes.

Responsibilities

• Maintain surgical clinic workflow, collaborating with the surgeon, surgical first assist, scheduler, and other departments to ensure efficiency and quality patient care.
• Actively assist the surgeon during intraoperative and office-based surgical procedures while maintaining a strict sterile field and patient safety.
• Prepare patients and caregivers for surgical procedures by providing education for informed consent, pre- and post-surgical care.
• Perform first assistant duties in the operating room or surgical suite, including room preparation, sanitation, turn-over, and patient positioning.
• Manage the ordering and stocking of surgical supplies, implants, and exam room inventory.
• Handle patient phone calls within scope, communicate routine lab and pathology results, and serve as a primary contact for patients outside the clinic.
• Maintain detailed and accurate documentation in electronic medical records, assist with History and Physicals (H&Ps), and manage clinical data entry.
• Plan work efficiently and follow established procedures for quality control, regulatory compliance, and organizational policies.
• Perform additional job functions as assigned.

Requirements

• Completion of an accredited nursing program.
• At least four (4) years of experience as a Registered Nurse.
• At least three (3) years of experience in OR, PACU, or related procedural support and recovery.
• Demonstrated ability to perform essential job functions with knowledge of aseptic technique.
• Independent functioning with strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
• Superior knowledge of surgical equipment and advanced instrumentation.
• Ability to troubleshoot complex technical equipment and communicate effectively with co-workers, physicians, and external staff.
• Strong organizational skills and ability to work without close supervision.
• Collaborative decision-making in surgical patient care.

Qualifications

Preferred:

• Bachelor’s degree in Nursing.
• Certification as a Registered Nurse First Assistant.

Credential/Licensure Required:

• Active RN license in the state of employment.
• BLS certification through the American Heart Association.
• ACLS certification.

Work Environment & Physical Demands
