Surgical Oncologist
Description
MaineHealth is seeking a fellowship-trained, full-time surgical oncologist to join its well-established team in Portland, Maine. The surgeon will be a member of the Division of Surgical Oncology, Section of General Surgical Oncology and Endocrine Surgery which includes 12 full-time surgeons, four of whom practice in this Section. The successful candidate will work as part of a multidisciplinary team, with colleagues in medical oncology, radiation oncology, and additional specialists in the MaineHealth Cancer Care Network.
Clinical Interest
A clinical interest in cutaneous oncology and melanoma, sarcoma, and peritoneal disease is preferred.
Research
The MaineHealth Cancer Care Network supports robust clinical and translational research efforts, with membership in both NCORP and the NCI cooperative groups.
Location
MaineHealth is a nationally recognized integrated care system that delivers highly coordinated, state-of-the-art care across a network that cares for over 8,000 new cancer patients each year. The cancer programs have grown significantly over the past three years and exceed 80% market share across the state of Maine.
Academic Affiliation
The selected candidate is expected to secure an appointment at the appropriate rank at Tufts University School of Medicine.
Teaching and Mentoring
This position involves teaching and mentoring residents from Maine Medical Center’s General Surgery Residency Program and medical students from the Maine Medical Center-Tufts University School of Medicine Medical School Program.
Network
The MaineHealth Cancer Care Network (MHCCN) is an integrated cancer care delivery network across the Southern, Coastal and Mountain regions of Maine and eastern New Hampshire. Designed to provide care as close to home as possible, the network comprises 11 hospital partners and provides comprehensive cancer care to more than 8,000 cancer patients annually. Current program includes TVEC, HIPEC, and a robust multidisciplinary team with joint medical and surgical oncology clinics as well as biweekly sarcoma, cutaneous, and GI tumor boards. MHCCN is the dominant cancer care provider in the state of Maine with COC, NAPBC, and NAPRC-accredited comprehensive cancer care programs.
