Responsibilities

  • Escort patients to the exam/procedure room.
  • Aid patients with walking as needed.
  • Collect patient information and history; take vitals and perform screenings according to provider guidelines.
  • Prepare paperwork and ensure complete and accurate documentation in the patient's electronic medical record.
  • Conduct pre-operative interviews with patients, explain surgical procedures, and address any questions within your scope.
  • Set up procedure rooms and surgical trays with all necessary supplies for procedures.
  • Comply with company policies and adhere to HIPAA regulations.
  • Drape and disinfect surgical sites, administer local anesthesia, and use a handheld cautery device to achieve hemostasis.
  • Assist the physician during surgical procedures, passing instruments, blotting, cutting sutures, and more.
  • Bandage surgical sites, prepare discharge paperwork, and review wound care instructions with patients.
  • Clean and prepare instruments for sterilization in an autoclave.
  • Collect and process pathology and lab specimens, route them to the correct lab, and maintain an accurate pathology log.
  • Remove sutures and notify patients of pathology and lab results.
  • Respond to patient inquiries in the office and on the phone as directed.
  • Schedule or reschedule appointments with providers and specialists as necessary.
  • Send appropriate records as required.
  • Maintain medication samples, discard outdated supplies, and keep accurate records.
  • Maintain infection control measures and keep exam rooms clean.
  • Document all medical instructions given to patients.
  • Travel to various surgical centers in Maryland as required.

Qualifications

  • A college graduate or someone interested in exploring opportunities in an in-office surgical setting.
  • A passion for caring for people and working in a team environment.
  • Reliable transportation and a willingness to travel to multiple locations in Maryland.
  • Training and motivation are highly valued, but no prior experience is necessary; it will be viewed favorably.
  • The ability to lift at least 15 pounds, stand for extended periods, and use a step stool is required.
