Duties/Responsibilities
- Escort patients to the exam/procedure room.
- Aid patients with walking as needed.
- Collect patient information/history; take vitals, and perform screenings per provider guidelines.
- Prepare paperwork for the patient’s current visit and ensure complete and accurate documentation within the patient’s electronic medical record.
- Complete pre-operative intake via a one-on-one interview with the patient, explain surgical procedures, and answer any questions within your scope.
- Prepare procedure rooms and surgical trays with all supplies needed for procedures.
- Comply with all company policies and procedures in adherence to HIPAA regulations.
- Drape and disinfect the surgical site, administer an injection of local anesthesia, and use a handheld cautery device to achieve hemostasis.
- Assist the physician during all procedures (passing instruments, blotting, cutting sutures, etc).
- Bandage surgical sites, prepare proper discharge paperwork, review wound care instructions with patients, and answer any questions or concerns they may have.
- Clean and prepare instruments for terminal sterilization in an autoclave.
- Collect and accurately process specimens.
- Prepare pathology and lab specimens.
- Routinely route to correct lab as required by patient’s insurance.
- Maintain accurate pathology log.
- Remove sutures.
- Notify patients of pathology and lab results.
- Respond to patient questions in the office and on the phone as instructed.
- Schedule or re-schedule appointments with providers, specialists as necessary.
- Send appropriate records as necessary.
- Maintain medication samples, discard out-of-date supplies, and keep appropriate records.
- Maintain infection control.
- Maintain cleanliness of exam rooms, and keep supply cabinets well stocked.
- Document all medical instructions given to patients.
Qualifications
- A college graduate or other individual interested in exploring opportunities in an in-office surgical setting.
- A passion for taking care of people.
- Ability to be a team player in a fast-paced environment.
- Must have reliable transportation and a willingness to travel to various surgical centers in Maryland.
