Surgical First Assistant

About the role

Surgi-Center of Central VA provides outpatient surgical excellence with 4 operating rooms and 3 treatment rooms, accredited by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care, physician-owned, and serving specialties including gastroenterology, ophthalmology, orthopedics, podiatry, urology, and ENT. As a Certified Surgical First Assistant, you will assist surgeons by arranging and handing over tools, holding open incisions, dressing surgical wounds, and serving as backup OR scrub tech several days per week.

Responsibilities

• Arrange and hand over surgical instruments to the surgeon
• Hold open incisions during procedures
• Dress surgical wounds
• Serve as backup OR scrub tech several days per week

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED
• Completion of a Surgical Technician Program
• NBSTSA Surgical First Assistant Certification
• Able to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations

Qualifications

• Two years of Certified Surgical First Assistant experience in multiple specialties (or equivalent combination of education and experience) – preferred

Skills

• General familiarity with medical terminology related to anatomy and surgical procedures in the operating room
