Surgical First Assistant

Responsibilities
- Utilize principles of aseptic technique to create and maintain a sterile field.
- Plan and provide equipment and supplies based on patient and physician needs.
- Assist the surgical team in opening items for cases, cleaning rooms between cases, and storing unused supplies.
- Demonstrate competency in assisting the surgeon within the unit’s scope of care.
- Promote cost containment while delivering quality patient care in the operating room.
- Participate in on-call assignments and demonstrate flexibility to cover staffing as needed.
- Perform other functions within Surgical Services to support smooth department operations.
- Provide a safe environment for the surgical patient during their perioperative experience.
- Serve as a professional member of the OR team.
- Pursue professional growth through continuing education and in-services.
- Adhere to hospital policies and procedures; support the mission of the hospital.
Requirements
- Certificate as a Surgical Technologist (ST) or Certified Surgical First Assistant (CSFA).
- Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification; instructor certification must be obtained within 30 days of employment.
