About the role
The Certified Surgical First Assistant contributes to the healthcare team in the operating room, managing patient needs from preoperative to intraoperative phases. Responsibilities include communicating with healthcare providers, using instruments, providing exposure, handling and cutting tissue, providing hemostasis, and suturing. The position may involve mentoring others.
Responsibilities
- Assessing and managing patient needs in the preoperative and intraoperative phases
- Communicating with healthcare providers about the patient’s plan of care
- Using instruments and medical devices
- Providing exposure, handling, and cutting tissue
- Providing hemostasis and suturing
- Mentoring and precepting others within the realm of expertise
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED
- Minimum of 3 years experience preferred
- Certified as a Surgical First Assistant (CSFA by the NBSTSA)
- Basic Cardiac Life Support or CPR obtained within 30 days of employment start date
Qualifications
