About the role
The Surgical Certified First Assistant (CFA) is a specially trained individual who assists surgeons in completing operations safely and expeditiously. They are experienced in aseptic techniques, set up necessary equipment and supplies, pull cases as needed, and break down cases after procedures. They must be competent in various surgical specialties including robotics, complex GI, colorectal, liver, thoracic, and surgical oncology.
Responsibilities
- Participate in and assist surgeons during operations
- Provide exposure, maintain hemostasis, and perform other technical functions
- Set up required equipment and sterile supplies as needed for assigned cases
- Pull cases as needed and break down cases at the end of procedures
- Perform delegated duties consistent with scope of practice and facility/surgeon requirements
- Precept and coordinate resources as needed
- Available for call for multiple specialties and facilities across HealthONE
- Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor, such as scrub technician, multi-skilled tech, or other areas where qualified
Qualifications
- Licensure/Certification/Registration: Registered as a Surgical Assistant by Colorado DORA and certified as a CSFA from NBSTSA, NSAA, or ABOSA
- Current BLS Certification through the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- Education: Graduated from a CAAHEP-approved school of surgical technology and completed a First Assistant Program accredited through ARC/STSA
- Experience: Minimum of two years as a Surgery Technician
- Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Advanced knowledge in the scrub role, proficiency in multiple service lines/specialties, and expertise in complex specialties including robotics, GI, colorectal, liver, thoracic, and surgical oncology
